if you don't smile, who will?

I had a request to write a blog about ways to make someone smile.  :)  See I just did! Haha.

Anyways, I'm starting to notice that a lot of my posts have to do with smiling.  But that's okay since it's a very important part of life. :)

Well, this person gave me three things to start off with, but then I thought I could come up with more.

Google!!!!!

So please note that I have not tried everything on this list, but they sound like good ideas.

1.  Smile.
Yep, if you yourself smiled, someone else will smile just from looking at you.  :)

2. Give a hug
The awesome person who gave me this blog idea gave me this one. :)  But seriously, hugging someone could make them feel sooooo much better.  That's why I get hugs a lot. :)

Hugging has been proven to have health benefits. One study has shown that hugs increase levels of oxytocin, and reduce blood pressure.[5]

Hmm, I hope wikipedia is right on this!!!

I found a lot of odd info about hugs (for example: the Christian side-hug.  I'm totally serious.  There's even a song...)  Now I want to write a post about hugs.  -sniff-  I'm staying up until 12 so it counts as tomorrow when I write it. :)

3.  Crack a joke
But please no gross ones because that just makes people want to be sick.  And that is NOT smiling. :)

4.  Hold the door
I know.  I'm getting weird looks from you.  Stop that! :)  Holding the door for someone is a sure way to get a smile.  Only on rare occassions have I not gotten a smile outta that.  And old ladies will either thank you and tell you how nice you are on the way to the elevator, or just give you an evil eye.  Moving on now.....

5.  Put a quarter (or whatever the heck they take) in someone's parking meter.
Not just randomly.  Like if someone's is running low, put something in it.  (don't blame me for not knowing.  I don't have my license yet!!  Ooh, but today, I'm only two years away! (well 1 from my permit)) That was a long ramble. :)

6.  Shovel your neighbors driveway
Now I have actually tested this one.  You can also shovel your whole street's driveways and sidewalks. Just be warned, if you have unique patterns on your shoes, you can be caught! (oh and when I was looking for pictures for this, I found articles on how to shovel snow.  That's sad if you don't know how and you google it!)

(picture below: yes, the Green Bay Packer fans are so flippin' amazing.  We shoveled Lambo field. :D)

7.  Smile and wave, smile and wave
This one, I also tested.  If you smile and wave at someone in a car, you're very likely to get one (them? two?) back.  Seriously, go wave at a little girl in a car.  She'll laugh and wave back.  Or at least that always happens in my experience...

8.  Make them hot cocoa
No this has NOTHING to do with my obsession with hot cocoa.  It just tastes so good!!  And it make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :)

9.  Presents yay!!!
Pft, no this has nothing to do with my birthday.  I'm actually serious this time. :)  Anyways, if you wrap up a present and give it to someone, you'll make them smile because they know that you thought of them.  Or send them a card for no reason.  Once I got a card like that, for no reason (well, I got it at my surprise party.  In October.  Yep, don't ask.  Or maybe do ask....) and it still makes me smile.  I will die with that card. :)

10.  Listen
Sometimes the one thing that will make people smile, is just to listen.  It's pretty easy.  You take duct tape and rip a piece off. You stick it over your mouth and shut up. :)

I shall now conclude.....

Who am I kidding?  Blogging is addictive. :)

Oh what the heck, being my birthday, I'm feeling generous. :)  So bye-bye!!!

PS.  Thanks reader for the idea. ;)

updates

I'm trying to fix the font on my blog.  It's either too big or too small. :)  Sorry for all the problems and odd changes that will be occurring.

My stupid brain has decided I'm going to be more stupid and make myself work more.

I'm competing in a stupid music contest my school is doing.

Well, it's not stupid, but I'm stupid for doing it.

Ugh, so I'm sitting here writing a song for this contest and I'm yet to record it.  Why do I do this to myself???

I'm going to be optimistic (haha!) and look for the good stuff in this.

Uh, I might be famous!

Hahahahahahahaha not.

My optimism isn't working too well. :)   I think it's broken.  :( -sniff-

I guess I'm getting some more experience in the music world?  I don't know, but I'm kinda stupid for bringing this on myself.  I have to have it recorded and submitted by the 15th and I guess we're voting for our favorite songs Nov 21-Dec 2.  Winners announced Dec. 15.

So there's that.  :)  Have a great Wednesday!

random ramblings of meghan nelson

I really hate putting people through my ramblings, but sometimes I say interesting and smart things when I ramble.

I said sometimes.

So first off, the post about project, uh, awesome, (haha) is renamed to Project Greta.  Ooh, I just thought I could name it Project Great.  Hmm...

I warned you I would ramble. :)

For Project Greta (or Great, who knows?) I thought 'hey, why don't you make your own sketchbook?'

Well I haven't started yet.  XD  I'm mainly debating over what paper to use.  :)  And I'm sort of afraid to start... I would use one I already have but I've either half used them or entirely used them. :/

There's that ramble.

Oh, and now I am the happy owner of an empty Christmas Cup!!!!!! =D  I'm very excited.

Why an empty cup? You ask?  Because I can keep it forever.  Duh.  :)

Hmm, I just had a thought that if everyone in the world owned a Ferrari, they wouldn't be awesome anymore.  They'd just be common.

Wow.  I just reread that and realized how stupidly random that was.  I'm ashamed. -hangshead-

Okay, done with that...

Here's another weird thought I had.  What if Smarties actually make you smarter???  Because I love them and once I ate a ton of them and I felt smarter.  And gross.  But that's just 'cause I ate a lot. :)

I'm starting to think I accomplish nothing and say nothing interesting or smart (no matter how many Smarties I eat) whilest rambling.  Is whilest a word?  If it's not, can it be a word?

Hum de dum de dum de dum...  I guess I should leave now as seeing I'm accomplishing nothing.  But here's one thing I will leave you with:

Eat more Smarties!!!!! :)

(just don't blame me if your teeth fall out and you get a bagillion [is THAT a word??] cavities.  I never told you that you shouldn't brush your teeth!!!)

optimism

So last night at youth group, Paul was NOT being optimistic.  It had to do with the fact that he was tired, his arm hurt, and he was playing fuseball against Danielle in a cast.  Pretty funny to watch actually.

Anyways, he did end up winning.  :)

But I don't know who said it, but I was going to write a blog about being an optimist and not a pessimist.

If you don't know what those are, you probably shouldn't be reading my blog. :)

I've had my fair share of crap and stuff I wouldn't want anyone to go through (even people I don't get along with).  I've had a ton of times where I just want to sleep all day and cry.  Life is hard, no one can say it isn't.  You can't change what happens in your life, but you can change how you deal with it.

Pessimism, pft, I've been an extreme pessimist before and sometimes I still am.  Sometimes, it's okay.  But most of the time, it's not.

I'm not saying I'm perfect and I'm always optimistic, bah blah blah.  But I am saying that if you try to look for the good in life, the bad doesn't seem so bad.

Here's an awesome example:

Let's say a lady is on the highway going to the hospital to see her son who's dying of cancer.  She's upset and her driving is terrible and she's having the worst day of her life.  There isn't anything good in her life, or so she thinks.

You drive next to her.  She tries to merge into your lane, not seeing you and almost hits you.  She stays in her lane and you come up next to her.

Do you flip her off like every other driver?

Or do you smile and wave at her?

If you do the first, she'll go to the hospital with an even heavier heart.  She'll feel like she now fails at driving, among the other things she 'fails' at.

If you smile and wave, you've forgiven her.  Said 'it's okay'.  She'll feel better, knowing that someone has been nice to her.  She hasn't failed.  The smile might make her smile, make her son smile.

The point of that story isn't teaching you road manners. :)  It's showing you that sometimes, if you're just nice to people, you might make their day.  It doesn't matter who they are or if you know what they're going through.

Now if you were a pessimist, you wouldn't be nice.  Pessimists will look for the bad in everything.  Quite depressing.

If you look for the good in things, you're life is better and it's easier.  Not easy.  But easier.  If that lady was an optimist, maybe she wouldn't have been so upset and felt like a failure.  If you were a pessimist you would've flipped her off because you felt that it was such a terrible thing what she did.

Stupid example, I know.  I'm kind of rambling today. :)

But my point is, be happy and look for the happy things in life.  I'm not going to tell you to stop and smell the flowers or whatever, I'm kind of allergic to flowers. :)

I'll admit that this post is sorta turning into a smile post.  But that's okay right?  I mean, smiling is optimistic. :)  And I don't know if you can find optomistic pictures without finding smile pictures.  So get ready to be bombarded with tons and tons of smile pictures(actually, I've had more pictures in a post.  This is only 23 and I've had over 30 before. :)  If they don't make you smile, I'm outta buisness. :)

project, uh, AWESOME!

My idea is very awesome.  Very, very, awesome.  I'm going to tell you now.

If you decided to watch the movie According to Greta after I posted about it, than you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.  If you didn't, I'm posting pictures so you know what I'm talking about.

Greta kept a journal, well multiple journals.  They were sort of like collages but with journaling mixed in.  Pretty awesome.

I really want to do something like what she did, but not as personal.  The reason why is because I want to post the pages here.  Maybe only the noneish personal ones.

Anyways, I'll try to do it fairly often.  But I'm not making any promises.  So here's the pictures.

(Oh, BTW, I'm trying out a few font, so let me know if it's too small.)

I know they aren't of her notebook, I can't find any pictures online.  Maybe later if I feel up to it, I might take screenshots.   So for now, see the posters which are crafted in the style of her notebook.  So I might start tomorrow.  Or Monday.  Or sometime.  Haha, I'll let ya'll go. :)
